As it turns out, the Mount Rushmore National Memorial ended up looking quite a bit different than what sculptor Gutzon Borglum was envisioning, as you can see here from the model. This is because they ran out of funding for the project during its construction, and so they were forced to stop after the heads.
But we have to say, it’s good that Borglum decided to start with the heads and work his way down, otherwise, it’d just be a bunch of headless bodies…
